this felt like a horror story omg and it really adds that I'm 24 and reading this in the middle of the night. You may wonder, why a horror story? It's the fear of fucking up, losing people, never getting any work done, letting your fucked up parents make you another fucked up person, and becoming so obsessed with people "getting" your work that you hurt anyone and everyone that cares to listen. I don't know, I hated Caroline but I know we're not supposed to like her. She's an alcoholic with self esteem issues and her book that gets attention isn't one that feels true to the rest of her work. She lost herself in her work and it's gonna take a HELL of a lot of work for her to recover and grow as a person overall. School is over and Caroline doesn't have to be the department's indie darling anymore but it will take years for her to let that go, despite all the money, fame, and opportunities it will never fill that hole. That's so sad and terrifying to watch unfold.

TLDR: Lengthy, wordy book that I feel is deep and well written but has a extremely unlikeable protagonis. If you can't handle that, carry on!

The beginning makes it seem like it’s going to be very straightforward; a slice of life messy queer, new adult, finding yourself & your creative voice in a capitalist hellscape narrative.
The story also becomes more abstract, interesting, and reflective as it proceeds. A delightfully unlikable MC. The merging of the MC’s work with their mental state was really cool, and shows where I think comics and animations are a medium that excels above others in representing dreamscapes and more abstract emotional journeys.
