Had The De Vinci Code not become popular, this novel would have collected dust on more shelves, and I can't really say that's a bad thing. The overall plot was a good one, but the execution was lacking. I can see where the author was trying to keep the book fast paced, but instead he ended up with a sometimes grueling and rushed feel. I liked the portrayal of the character of Robert Langdon more in Angels & Demons then I did in The De Vinci Code though. He was much more fleshed out and personable -- which does make sense seeing as this book is earlier in the series, but it's unfortunate that this character development is the most notable point in the book. Overall, Angels & Demons is definitely a let down.

Not as painfully bad as Digital Fortress, though has its share of eye-rolling moments, such as a Mach 15 plane, and the fair share of plotholes. All the usual Dan Brown elements are there, such as the masterly assassin that's an agent of the higher power behind the conspiracy, little bits of historical trivia and a breathless chase around a city. Entertaining but forgettable if you'll overlook the not very intelligent moments.

I would really give this 2.5 stars because it's not my favorite of his. My favorite is still the Da Vinci Code. Brown does a great job weaving in historical details, religious intrigue and Roman attractions but pushes it beyond fantastical at the end. It does make for a better film adaptation. This is one instance where I would say the film medium does this story more justice.

I ate this shit up so well. This truly displays my geniuses at choosing the best two majors in the world. Also someone please get Dan Brown in contact with me cuz he has connection with over a dozen scientists that I would love to work with at CERN, and the million exclusive tours at Vatican City!!!!
