Travel literature is replete with writers self-conscious about the nature and purpose of their journey. It's a 'journey of self-discovery', or a 'journey to discover one's roots', or whatever. Often embarked upon from a position of privilege, waylaid en route in dramatic fashion, and written of with self-aggrandizing egocentrism.

This is none of these. Nimble minds and an old broken-down Fiat are all this pair need, traveling because to do otherwise is not to live. No pretension, no faux grand realisations; just boundless curiosity, stoicism, and optimism. It's beautiful, crammed with insight, erudite and joyous.
