Vera was so funny! I loved reading the chapters from her perspective. Some of the other POV characters were less developed, especially Riki. The story was at its best in the Vera chapters. I really liked Emma and Julia too.

I'd recommend this to fans of the Thursday Murder Club series. Its a similar style.
Vera Wong found a man dead in her tea house and makes it entirely her business to solve his murder.

Unfortunately, just like in Thursday Murder Club  I never really got into the book. I kept going moreso to finish it than out of enjoyment or desire to solve the mystery.

Vera is only 60, I feel like that is younger than her descriptions make her seem. I found her both moderately endearing and frustrating.

The found family elements were nice I just didn't really jive with everything together.

Jesse Q. Sutano is back - I'm glad that this book was much more in line with Dial A for Aunties in terms of fun and quality. It was completely off the wall and crazy, but in the best way possible. Sutano has a gift for creating characters and writing relationships, and this was a great example of her talent. I had so much fun with all of the characters, I didn't want the book to end. I loved Vera, and especially her relationship with Emma. The heart of this book and the love between characters reminded me a lot of Roselle Lim's books, which is something that I'm always happy to be reminded of.
