Wicked Ties

Shayla Black

Pre-review***I am about 100 pages into the book. I am loving how Shayla Black writes. She definately, imho, knows how to create the delicious wicked thoughts of someone with dark fantasies they want to come to life and a man more than willing to make them submit. My only hang-up is believablity. The plot is second to great character development/chemistry BUT its annoying to have it keep popping up to ruin such an otherwise perfect romantica. The interaction between Jack and Morgan is all you'll be interested in. Sometimes I like a good backstory but when the characters are so darn hot, who gives a flying hoot! NOW: that I am have finished the book I must say that I would definately pick up another Shayla Black book, but not to soon if it's as heavy as this one. Jack (Dom) wanted Morgan to admit her submissive feelings. His admitted yes he wanted to sleep with her but more important that she needed to know what she truly liked in the bedroom to find ultimate pleasure. Morgan annoyed me with the fact that she wouldn't except the fact that she was even curious about D/s play when she was so turned on by everything she saw and heard Jack do. But then I realized that she was very repressed and that was the reason she denied her sexuality for so long.

I don't know if I reviewed this book well. It'd take longer to explain the dynamics of the characters the way I saw the growth and change. I am not sure why I keep reading bondage sex erotica when I don't personally find it a turn-on. I've only read the books b/c I wanted to read more by the author or by recommendation. Thankfully they have been well written and entertaining and not just about the sex. I don't know what's it's called but if I can't connect on a mental level with the characters no matter how small or briefly the story loses points. The first encounter, the build-up to that has to be the best suspense ever! When the characters really have your heart.

3.25-3.5 stars. This was a pretty good book. I did feel the connection between Morgan and Jack. The story was a bit outlandish. It was nothing terribly special though.

Shayla Black is slowly becoming one of my favorite romance/suspense writers. I love her characters, the storylines, and the never disappointing twists & turns she throws in for good measure. The characters are strong and well developed in their own way, so much so that they at times reappear later on in this series and it all makes sense. It bothers me when authors throw around revisited characters or storylines at random, and it does nothing to help the progression of the story itself -- not the case here.

Also, there
Spoilerwas a certain 'aspect' to this particular story that I had never really enjoyed reading about before when it was included in the genre, and she completely changed my opinion about it. When this 'group fun' is written as well as she does it, what's not to like?

I am very much so looking forward to reading more from her, especially in this series.

Pure smut that got and kept my attention.

I found myself bored out of my mind. I can't continue. It lacks on something i just can't put my finger on what.
It's too slow for my taste. Wasn't drawn to ANYTHING so therefore i will leave it as is.

I do feel bad because i can't give it a proper rating/review but i just don't have it in me. There are other books that have my interest at the time.

Terrible and ridiculous. Sex was pretty good. It’s the only reason I finished it. The rest was awful. Jack was a terrible Dom. He did not care about consent. He was impatient and unnecessarily punishing. He completely disregarded aftercare. Once, he left her bound to a table and walked out. His friend unlocked her and provided aftercare. This friend wasn’t part of the scene. Don’t even get me started on Morgan. She’s annoying as hell. She argues just to argue. She wants it but refuses to admit it. She gives in, loves it, then refuses as soon as she wakes up again. It got old real fast. Skip this one. It was bad.

The thing I liked about this book and about Jack was that when reading his POV, it was like an actual guy's mind and not the whole 'I'm becoming sensitive and only for you' bullshit that happens in a lot of books.
adventurous challenging dark medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

I was honestly kind of excited for a smutty book that had good reviews. It helped that the reviews were by people that tend to like the same books that I do. However, I can't ignore the total lack of consent for most of this book. I mean he has sex with her once so that makes it ok to tie her up and fondle her boobs while she is asleep. When she wakes up, she keeps saying no. That whole your mouth says no but your eyes say yes shit doesn't do it for me. Neither does letting his pervy three way buddy watch them bang and then that guy proceed to tend to her nipples and bootie hole all the while she's saying no. And let's not forget him sending their sex video out. Idgaf if it were for revenge. She was not important. She was collateral damage. CONSENT PEOPLE! And that whole I know what you need better than you do shit doesn't change it for me. No means no. Period. And that was pretty much it for me. Oh and if she had said cream or mound one more time, I might have vomited. I finished it but this was not a good book, a good story or a good lesson.
