This was a sleeper hit! Ferin really grew on me. I loved the glimpses of Sabriel and Touchstone, Sabriel teaching Lirael, and honestly Lirael didn't annoy me as much as she normally did in the original. Lirael and Nicolas are cute, even if their romance goes a bit from 0 to 100. Mogget and the Disreputable Dog seem to be there for fan service, and I feel like the book could have been a bit longer, but I really enjoyed this one.

A satisfying sequel to the last book, though I had forgotten how youthful the writing seems in the series. Extremely cliched in places, it’s still a good read and I enjoyed how the story played out.
