Delightfully fun and endearing! I love a good coming-of-age story and when it’s set at camp? It’s usually a recipe for goodness. I have fond memories of my own camp days and reading about adventures, friendship, and discovering cryptids is my idea of a fun time.

I just want to start this off by saying I did not read the first book in the volume in its entirety, I just needed a book to take me out of a slump. This did exactly that.

This second volume of the Camp whatever series takes a dark turn. We follow Willow as she ends up getting involved with an ancient mystery involving all kinds of creatures - vampires, trolls gnomes, you name it!

I have never actually read a fantasy graphic novel so this was a first, but it was quite fun and interesting. The illustrations were great! highly recommend.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with this arc in exchange for an honest review.

This book was so much fun! The art style was absolutely gorgeous and the plot was such fun. It gave a bit of a Lumberjanes vibe but less gay (sadly). I am so looking forward to more from this story. I can't wait to see what other creatures and characters Willow and her friends meet next!

I greatly enjoyed reading this book and am excited for the next book in the series.

It was great to see such a strong female character. And even though some characters treat Willow different because she needs hearing aids, she doesn't let that stop nor faze her in her decisions in following leads. I liked how her identity didn't revolve around her wearing hearing aids. The main focus was on her fearlessness, witty tongue, and caring.

It was fun to see where things went. Grine did a great job hinting at possible things without giving them away until they wanted the reader to know. I am very excited for [b:Secrets of Camp Whatever Vol. 2: The Doors to Nowhere|59365367|Secrets of Camp Whatever Vol. 2 The Doors to Nowhere|Chris Grine|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1634486222l/59365367._SX50_.jpg|93538287] to come out in 2022.

I really enjoyed this supernatural graphic novel about Willow, a deaf girl, who does not want to go to camp in Nowhere. It reminded me of Weirn Books by Chmakova. Very cute and spooky for upper elementary, lower middle school students. Thanks Netgalley for an ARC of this book. All opinions are my own. 3.5

This was a really fun read. I finished the whole thing in just two days! (Probably would have been faster but, ya know - work.)

I really enjoyed the mystery of the island. Getting to know all the kids and creatures over the course of the book was a lot of fun.

This was a great volume 2! We learned so much about all of the characters and got some backstory too. Willow and her friends are trying to navigate a centuries old mystery and Willow is learning some things about herself too. There's also a prophecy, mermaids, and much more! Will the kids be able to figure out the mystery? You'll have to read this and find out!

Eleven year old Willow’s family are moving to a new town and it just seems plain weird. As a way to get to know some of the local children, her parents send her to the bizarre summer camp that her dad used to go to. Puzzling and spooky happenings soon arise and Willow becomes embroiled in a mystery like no other. She has to deal with bigfoot, talking gnomes and fantastical creatures beyond her imagination.
I really enjoyed this light and fun graphic novel. The story took a little bit of time to get started, but as soon as it was going there was a good pace to it with the action represented nicely throughout with a mixture of textless panels and sound effects. This graphic novel really embraced the traditional spooky summer camp mystery and had a really Scooby-Doo vibe that I found engaging and I’m sure many kids will too.
The cast of characters are fun and likeable too. The main character Willow is an excellent example of deaf representation and I particularly liked the part in which this was portrayed through textless speech bubbles representing Willow’s understanding of the world around her when her hearing aids were out of battery. This would make a fantastic opportunity for a discussion about how we experience the world, especially how much we often rely on our senses. Antagonist Mr Tooter was suspicious and unlikeable, but in a good way! Exactly as you’d want him to be. Also, Toast the gnome added an excellent dash of humour into this spooky graphic novel.
Bring on volume 2! I give Secrets of Camp Whatever 4 out of 5 stars.

Willow’s back again and this time she’s seriously in trouble. It’s a good thing that she’s got her friends from camp to back her up because she is about to make a discovery that will change her world and life forever.

I loved the first volume of Secrets of Camp Whatever and I think this second volume is even better. The world building continues to be fantastic and I love the colourful cast of characters. The pace was good, nice and quick with bright art that will grab children. Wonderful – 5 out of 5 stars.
