A wonderful book about trying to find out who you are! I went into this expecting a cute romance and it turned out to much more about figuring out how to love yourself! Very enjoyable

Nora loves books. Thats why she got into publishing. Now her comapny isnt doing great, lay offs and pay cuts are happening, most of her friends are gone and shes been an assistant for 5 years. Everything hinges on one author & wouldn't you know he's the handsome, happy, and successful guy that Nora can't stop being sarcastic and playful with.
Must Love Books was a bit more than a rom-com. There was some sparks flying at times, but in all reality it was more about mental health and not giving in the the "creature". Nora is having a hard time, but it's not the first time she's faced the ugly voice in her head. How do you make it stop talking? Nora's typical way is to escape into the pages of a different reality. But that doesn't seem to be working this time.

Okay, so, I've seen this labelled (and marketed) as romance but I’d probably have labelled it as fiction. I am also not sure how I feel about the book in total to be honest. On one hand, Nora’s financial and career struggles were depicted in a pretty relatable manner. On the other hand, when an author decides to deal with such serious issues as depression, suicidal ideation and burnout, they’d better be serious and responsible with how they’re handling them. When you write about “the creature” (as in suicidal ideation), you’d better lead your main character to therapy somehow (or at least acknowledge the fact that she needs to go, in the book), because these shit don’t simply go away with having caring friends and a love interest or changing jobs. That's a huge misconception that contributes to the stigma around mental illness. Although I appreciated that she had some kind of supportive network, I would like to see her getting professional help (or at least looking for a therapist at the end of the book). I think it’s a message that should come firmly from books that decide to deal with mental health issues. The writer did a beautiful job in some parts to describe the ups and downs of depression and burnout and how they affect one’s life, however the book came off as dishonest about breaking the vicious circle and finding light at the end of the tunnel. The "she quit/ fell in love/ Beth offered her a place to stay and then she found hope" plot line was disappointing. That's the reason why I'm giving this 2.5/5, rounding it down to 2/5.

If Nora wasn’t honest with anyone else in the book, she sure was honest with the audience. A book about struggling through your twenties, battling the uncertainties of a career while trying to make ends meet. The mental health issues, the socializing qualms — it all rang true. Sad and hopeful.

I didn’t dislike this book, it’s just not what I thought it would be. It was an inspirational story about the main character finding herself, but I thought it was a romance. The romance is a subplot. I also liked the love interest more than the main character.
