Good, it dragged at times but I think I was distracted doing other things. But I did start these sections over. The whole book is fairly vague and never straightforward. Mostly poetic writing and metaphors. This book if were a movie would have the viewers asking if the director was a psychedelics. Will read last one, simply because I want closure. 3 stars.

I finally got to this one and I found the audiobook on Hoopla before I bought it on Audible. It was an easy read, which I’m grateful for.

Fever is the follow-up to Lauren DeStefano’s novel “Wither”, which is called a “thought-provoking debut” by Kirkus Reviews. This novel is set in a future where women die by the age of 20 years of age and men die by the age of 25 years of age.

Girls are sold into marriage to keep the population growing due to the virus that kills people at such young ages. Rhine has finally escaped her marriage to Linden but what hope does she really have in the outside world when her death looms ever closer?

I wish there was a trigger warning for the close call sexual assault that occurs in this book. It’s a trigger for me, for sure, and I was freaking out in public. Not a good look, right?

I can see the protests when the president announced the rebuilding of the labs happening again. It reminds me of the fallout from the death of George Floyd during the COVID pandemic.

This entire trilogy reminds me of what happened when the COVID pandemic was at its worst when things were first shut down. I don’t like the post-apocalyptic novels because of that.

It reminds me too much of what can easily happen if we are left to our own devices after something catastrophic. I don’t like thinking about that, as I wonder what I’d do in that situation.

I feel so much empathy for Rhine, as I have a lot of the same personality traits that she does. I put other people before myself to my own detriment. I help people before I help myself and I see a lot of myself in Rhine. That really hurts.

I hate that Rhine finally returned to Manhattan after a year away to find that her brother burned their home down. I know she’ll have what I hope is an HEA at the end of the next book but I still felt a broken heart.

When she starts dying at the end of the book, my heart sank again. I was hoping that she would have more time. I know there’s a third book to come but my heart still sank. I can still feel my heart sinking. lol

I would hate to see Maddie going through the world truly on her own without both her biological mother and Rhine. I know she still has her biological maternal grandmother but I feel like that’s not the same.

I’m truly cautious when it comes to recommending this book because of the sexual assault that almost happens about halfway through the book. I don’t want anyone to be triggered like I was. It’s a shame too because the premise is quite promising.

Wither was definetly better. I loved Withered. 5 stars all the way. But Fever is a whole different story. I just couldnt get into it, had to push myself to finish it. The story dragged on. To me it seemed to be a filler book for the first and last books. I have high hopes for the final installment of the series.

Should be 1.5, but I went with 1. Just could not get into it, I only finished it because I have to finish books. It was just so dull in my opinion, and nothing happened. Don't know if I'll read the last book or not.

This one was an intense read. It's filled with some hope and actual good things happening only for despair to settle in. lots of pain and suffering and its sad what happens toward the end. but it finishes with some hope. I feel for Rhine and it sucks how much shes gone through. I am still hoping this has a happy ending cause she and a few others deserve it. This had some more darker elements in it and leads you into a feeling of what madness is and I think it portrayed well. I look forward to the final book.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!

I loved Wither. This, I didn't love.

In fact, I HATED this.

It was completely undeveloped, the cover is like "WHA?!" and the characters are so stupid. This is the plot of the book: Get caught. Escape. Get caught. Kiss. Escape. Get caught. Drink water. Escape. Get caught.

The girl on the cover is probably thinking, "Oh, no, I have to work? But...but...I don't wanna!" Well, deal with the pain, girl, deal with the pain.

If you liked Wither, don't read this because you will be depressed at how horrible it is.

The topic of this book is tough. Trying to find a better place to end up somewhere worse. The experimentation is terrible and for what purpose. I don’t think this series would end happily but hopefully with resolution.

Not as good as the first one. I feel like this book 1.) either needed to be a stand alone as opposed to a second in a series (obviously including changes to make it a separate book) or 2.) the events that take place need to be flip flopped. It jumped too fast from one thing to another and made it seem unrealistic (yes the whole book is just that but it still needs an element of believability). Not only that, but there was some obvious flaws and disconnect. For example, Lol @ using heterochromia as a sign of hope. Like to not even... change its scientific name or purpose. It’s literally just a color difference in the eyes lolol idk I find it kind of.... lame and lack of creativity.

Then there’s the issue with Gabriel. Wasn’t Gabriel sold to be a child servant around the age of 9? How is it when they go out in to the real world, he adapts as if he hasn’t spent his whole adult life serving. He should be awkward as fk and have way more trouble adjusting. And I don’t buy that anyone in his position wouldn’t feel even the slightest bit of resentment being thrown into that shit when that “relationship” was a bunch of random secret flirts from time to time lol no....

Also thinking of the age ranges these kids are suppose to be in makes this book super gross and it’s the one thing I can’t stand about YA.

This book was not as enjoyable as the first and I hope the last isn’t as disappointing....

This was a great extension to the first book. I just thought it was really good. Very interesting.

I hate how it ended with a cliffhanger.
