This has been on my TBR for awhile and once I picked it up, I read through it quickly. The premise was interesting and I enjoy a good puzzle/mystery type book. I found the main character(and particularly her thoughts on the potential love interests) a bit annoying at times but not enough to ruin the story for me. I appreciate that it set up the next book well while still feeling like a (mostly) complete arch.

I loved how short these chapters were. Anyway this book was not at all what I was expecting but it's really good and I'm definitely going to read the rest of the series.

I really liked all of the riddles and the mistery, and I alao liked that for me, as somebody who doesn't fit into the age group of young adults anymore the dialogues and actions of the characters weren't too cringey.
I also liked that the story was very engageing and allthough I'm usually not a big fan of books that don't have a set ending and are basically just smaller parts that make a series more digesteable I'm definitly hooked and I'll start the next part right away.
A very refreshing and quick read for me.

This felt more like middle grade than YA. The writing was incredibly repetitive, as if the author expects you to instantly forget something unless it's repeated 5 times in quick succession. The fun party of mysteries is trying to solve them before they're revealed--that's not possible here, because you pretty much never have all the pieces and you just have to wait for the characters to explain things. And the explanations are not very satisfying at all. Also, there is, of course, a really stupid love triangle with instant attraction that makes no sense (beyond teenagers being teenagers, I guess).

"For fans of Knives Out" I have never felt so betrayed.

This was a fun read, though having the love triangle between two emotionally distant brothers was tiring and very insta-lovey. Solving the puzzles was an interesting driver in the plot. I kind of saw the plot twist from a mile away though. These chapters are so short throughout that the book moved fast. I want answers so I’ll definitely read the next book, but I’m not in a hurry. The brothers all annoyed me a little bit lol.

1st Reread~ 4.75 Stars.

Even better upon a reread.  Only reason it's not higher is that, like I said, the ending didn't have that absolutely mind-blowing quality to it.

Original Rating + Review ~ 4.5 Stars.

For a YA book that isn't of a genre a normally read from (mysteries), I was really impressed!

I liked the shorter length of the chapters and the cliffhangers that led me to immediately turn the page.
This book left me on the edge of my seat, eager for more.
The ending was full of surprises and left me excited to read the next book (the end was just a little underwhelming and lacked the "absolutely mind-blown" aspect I was hoping for, but it was still good).
I loved Hawthorne House, loved the characters, loved the story, and loved the messages it showcased.

Can't wait to see what happens next in this series!
