This is probably my second favourite of the series and I really liked both Brenna and Rye, seeing  their antagonistic relationship changing and how it can sometimes be difficult to break free of the roles you have played around others who have known you for a long time. I appreciated that we got to see the ongoing trauma that both are still working through from Jax’s suicide attempt, to be able to see the ways that kind of grief can have long-lasting and rippling effects. There was also some meaningful commentary about how you can be happy for other people but still jealous when many of your friends are pairing off and you want a connection like that too.

It was perfectly steamy, but I wish we had more “situations” outside of their thrice weekly meetups, just to see how they interacted in different settings and more honest scenes like the one where she shaved him in the bathroom. The conflict was a little much for me - though I might just have a low tolerance right now - and I really wish we could have seen some stronger boundaries with the emotionally abusive parents, but other than that I really enjoyed the time I spent with this book.
