I honestly really enjoyed this. I listened to the audiobook (which is amazingly narrated) and I honestly at times found myself grinning or blushing. The world building is good, it happens over time so it never feels like there’s an “info dump” really. Unraveling the mysteries is somewhat easy, but still entertaining. And the connections between the characters is really engaging.

I am not one who stays up late reading but this one kept me up! The first 400 pages were rather slow or medium paced but the last 200 pages I could not put down!!! Granted sometimes hawke comes across a little yucky, I loved the playful banter btw him and poppy. I love fantasy romance and this one kept me going. I panic ordered a copy of the second book from my local book store when I was about 2-3 chapters from finishing this one because I KNEW I was going to be left needing more. And I was right because the last chapter of the book left me wanting more. Like immediately.

I LOVED this book! It has it all: fantasy, mystery, SEX! It also has a diverse set of characters, even though you don’t really learn how diverse until the later books (POC, LGBTQ+ characters, disabled characters, etc.) 

I honestly had no idea where this book was going at any time. I can usually see plot twists before they happen, but I was SHOCKED!

It was okay probably 3.0 rating but I got to the last 100 pages and the book lost me that I almost didn't finish. 

***edit: The more I think about this book. The more I hate it.

What is consent my dear reader? The main LI doesn't know. I hate that character more and more. Acts like he knows what's best for the MC. I also don't like the MC.
