clearly i’m entering my fantasy romance era and i’m not mad about it.

the first 200 pages of confusing world building were tough to get through, and to be honest i still don’t feel like i 100% have a grasp on this world and its people.

HOWEVER- i am a closeted vampire fanatic (thank you, middle school Twilight days) and i will ALWAYS be down for some vampiric sexual frustration.

was the plot predictable? yes. did i completely love it and already purchase the next book? yes and yes.

also i don’t think i’ll be able to look at honeydew the same after this.

It was okay probably 3.0 rating but I got to the last 100 pages and the book lost me that I almost didn't finish.

***edit: The more I think about this book. The more I hate it.
What is consent my dear reader? The main LI doesn't know. I hate that character more and more. Acts like he knows what's best for the MC. I also don't like the MC.

Well this really does live up to the BookTok hype… wow

The relationships between Poppy, Vikter, Tawney, and Rylan are beautifully done. I really enjoyed the relationship between Vikter and Poppy, you could feel the love between them as tho they really were father and daughter.

Hawke, where to start. The mental image he creates is one of true rugged handsomeness. Can he come and sweep me off my feet?? The character development was excellent, it had me thinking and I’m so happy my theories were correct

The tension and resulting spice between Poppy and Hawke was palpable from the very first words they exchanged. We all love a morally grey love interest and Hawke checks all those boxes.

The introduction of Kieran’s character was also a welcome introduction of some lighter banter. Hoping we get to see more of him moving forward.

I did get slightly confused when it came to what ascended/descenters/Altantians/craven we’re but I think that eventually got clearer as the book went on.

The rise reminds me slightly of the wall from game of thrones, as well as the mist containing craven being like white walkers

Let’s see what book two brings
