Randomly read this on break yesterday. I think both of the stories had the potential to be something I would have liked a lot more. They weren't bad, there just wasn't enough of them. I love a good short story, but these would have worked much better as novellas, with more time to let the story actually develop.

The first story was pretty nice, kind of predictable but I liked reading it. The second one must have gone over my head, I don't really get it.
This is my first attempt at reading Cecelia Aherns writing style. I love short stories, so therefore this was a great starting point.
Girl in The Mirror
I just didn't get it? There wasn't enough detail.
Memory Maker
Got better but still there was something missing
Most readers know short stories are a hit and miss although this will not stop me from reading Cecelia Aherns books in future. Lesson learned from past: try to give authors another chance

This was my first Cecelia Ahern book. I expected a lot more from it.
The first story, as F***ed up as it is, is relatively haunting.
The second story, on the other hand, is very vague and I guess, one could call it "beautiful" but it's just not my type of book. I like it when the characters are vague not the plot.
So, overall, I did not like the book too much, or rather, I did not like the book at all, and hence I refuse to give it more than one star.

If you've read Cecelia Ahern before, you know to expect fairytales. This small book of two short stories is just that. The first one, Girl in the Mirror, sticks out as the better one of the two as haunting and evoking; The Memory Maker a story of love and loss. They're really similar in the way JK Rowling's Tales of Beedle the Bard reads - the pages even contain their own illustrations too. I haven't read Cecelia Ahern in a long time and this quick read was a welcoming reminder of how sweet and captivating her story telling can be.
Okay, it definitely wasn't what I was expecting after reading the blurb. It just blew me away. The first story, let me tell you, gave me goosebumps. And the second one, well had it been longer, I would have been reduced to tears; it was so sad. Though not the most ideal read for me (I love happy endings), I would appreciate the amazing writing; it keeps you hooked - i was racing through words, finding out what happens next. All in all, it was amazing. I only subtract the last star because of the endings to both stories.
The first story, Girl in the Mirror, was pretty great. I didn't understand why Ellie needed all those mirrors though, or why she didn't destroy them. I liked the way Sarah described the house, how she knew immediately something was wrong but tried for her friend to move past it. Lila went pretty much her whole life not being bothered by the mirrors, and while I kinda get why she did it, I also don't? There were plenty of other options. The ending was kinda weird too. They just messed that guys life up and then got to live together until Ellie died. 4/5 stars.
The second story, The Memory Maker, I liked less. The pov took a bit to get used to. The machine was weird, and I didn't particularly like the relationships. His relationship with his girlfriend? wife? is described in a strange way. Maybe if I read this story first, I'd have liked it more. 2.5/5 stars.
