Really enjoyed the previous two in the series but not this one. The plot was motivated mainly by heartbreak and people sleeping/not sleeping with each other so I wasn't a fan. There were some interesting elements introduced but Jacob's rapidly spiraling daddy issues were weird and the ending felt very abrupt.
As the third book in a series of at least 5 books, I found The Golden Yarn to be a bit lackluster compared to its predecessor Fearless (now renamed as Living Shadows). Funke has created an engaging and sympathetic cast of characters (even the heartless Dark Fairy had my pity and admiration) but here they seemed hopelessly mired in a complicated web of their own feelings (made, I suppose, of golden yarn). Everyone seems to suffering from regular love-sickness, unrequited love-sickness, and I-don't-even-have-a-heart-but-I-still-have-love-sickness. All these feels were poignant in and of themselves, but they dragged the plot down. Perhaps it would have been better if the Mirrorworld were just a trilogy and Funke was obligated to wrap things up here. Not that I want the series to end, but I felt that this 430+ page book could easily have been about 100 pages shorter. And after all, it felt that not much really happened except the inevitable and long-foreseen union of two characters you always knew would be together in the end. *sigh* Now for the long wait for Book 4...

I would have read this in full, but the galley which I received was pretty much unintelligible. Perhaps one which I'll come back to in future.
WHERE IS THE NEXT ONE!?!? Omg it was amazing and omg I really need to know what is going on
This one had a different feel to it. In a good way, though.
Seriously, Funke never disappoints.

I don't think this author will ever let me down. I loved this book :)
Update
It's incredible how much of this book I forgot D:
Anyway, I loved it as much as the first time I read it, Jacob breaks my heart!

Funke always creates a very interesting and fun world within her books. The Inkworld books are one of my favs. I enjoyed how this world felt new, while still co-exsisiting with all these different fairytale worlds that we already know, from Cinderella and other stories. The story did surprise me at times and had some good plot twists, but then there were other things involving the romance and so on that I was less keen on.
