While this book is part of the NEXT series, the books are interconnected standalones. The MCs of the first book are mentioned in this book, but you don't need to read it to read this.

While I loved NEXT OF KIN, this book, unfortunately, fell flat for me. I listened to the audiobook and I didn't like the narrator. The FMC is the best friend of the FMC in the first book, but the voice of the FMC in this sounds much older, which threw me off because there isn't supposed to be an age gap.

I also felt that Matt and Lane didn't have the easy banter and chemistry of people who are attracted to each other. It felt like there was lusty tension between them rather than genuine chemistry, and I didn't buy it.

I'm curious for the third book, but will be going in with slightly lower expectations.

Gave up around 30% of the way in

so much representation in this book, it was amazing. i loved seeing my own experience with anxiety and with grief reflected in lane, and i loved seeing how patient matt was with her and just reading his swoon-worthy character in general. 11/10 will be reading more hannah bonam-young books!

Okay. I absolutely devoured this book! I loved it! I love the chemistry between Matt and Lane. I LOVE Matt! His yearning for her, doing everything for Lane. Understanding her. The LETTERS! THE FREAKING LETTERS HE WROTE TO LANE! Oh my god, perfection. Lane too, her struggles were real, she felt so real to me, so imperfect. A mess. And god did I relate to her. I love the fact that we got to read about Warren, Chloe, Willow and even Luke. It was so nice to hear what they’ve been up to, and Willow talking. This book was honestly one of my favorites so far. The struggles between Matt and Lane felt so human, so real. They just fit so perfectly with one another, and the fact that Lane decided to work on herself so she could give Matt the best version of herself? THATS LOVE! The writing was so smooth, so good, easy to read and easy to get hooked on. This book had me crying happy tears (especially during the proposals). Thank you Hannah Bonam-Young for such a beautiful piece of art.

One of the best non-fantasy modern romance book I've ever read. I've noticed that I don't like the character really if I can see myself in them and this was the case for Lane. She was very very relatable. This book was not just a romance book for me, it also taught me a few things. And then, Matt is such a green flag, without any flaws, and literally perfect. I can totally see why Lane saw him as "the best man in whole world"

before Lane ever proposed I was telling her myself to go and husband him up and this has never happened. I have never wanted the girl to propose first and I've read sooo many books but when I tell you Matt totally deserved it. He's probably one of the best men I've ever read.

It was really a five star worthy book but i had to reduce some points because I did get some of my bookish icks. But the overall story was so cute and wholesome, i still would recommend it to anyone who's into romance. If i had gotten the same icks from any other book, it would probably be 2 or 3 star but seriously other things in the story really made me love it despite those icks.
