I wanted to really like this book

This book had some good points but it also had some bad.
So for the bad, the first thing that was bothersome is the editing. I feel like if I have paid money for the book, it should be somewhat edited. But there was an abundance of grammar and spelling mistakes. Sometimes so bad that I had to just skip over the entire sentence.
Also, the world building was confusing. Though the majority of the book, I got the feeling that the book was set in a very early time. But sometimes sprinkled throughout the book, you would find out that there was phone, electricity, and lit up signage. It was confusing. It was hard to see that the dragon kings had set up electricity, phone communications, and plumbing to just let it die out along the way. The next thought would be that the city had all these things before the war, which was 100 years before hand, and somehow they were able to get it back up and running within days. It was just a stretch.
The next thing that was so hard as a reader to take in, was the relationship between Silas and Elora. I have read dark romances where the male love interest is abusive to the female but then changes his ways and is very protective and caring for her. This relationship was ridiculous. If I wanted to be entertained by the same thing happening over and over again, I would have just watch Groundhogs Day. I swear I kept hoping for Silas to get better and to redeem himself but I finally got the point where I felt he was just toxic and maybe needed to just leave.

The next thing isn’t necessarily a bad thing but I feel like future readers may want to know that there is sooooo much sex. I’m fine with some sex in a book but I did end up skimming past it a few times.

Now for the good. I liked the story. I wish the author would have worked out her ideas for it a little better. I believe this story was originally on a pay to read site before. Where you pay for each chapter and the author uploads as they write. So I’m curious if she didn’t 100% know what she was planning on doing at first. But, I did like the story about the war and why it happened and why there was a curse and how they had to break it. I just feel like it was a bit jumbled at times. I also liked the characters at times. It was hard sometimes with the Silas issues.

I wanted to really like this book and maybe if the author took it down and did some edits and some reworking, it could become so much better.

i cannot believe I read this entire book. Absolute garbage. The messaging here is let your partner beat you MULTIPLE TIMES and just forgive him. Let him treat you like trash, but because he eventually kind of apologizes then it's all good. Also totally fine that he literally committed genocide against the FMC entire RACE but he made a little statue for her, so like, totally good and fine now, right??

I read a lot of trashy romance but this was a new level. Do not recommend. I feel like I finished this out of hate reading tbh.

Grammar and punctuation end up getting poorer and poorer the further things go. All the characters know how to do is Scream, Squeal, and Screech at one another. There’s very little character growth/development and a lot of the time there’s even little to no personality to them, Silas especially. Everyone just reads as inconsistent.

At one point the author describes an erection as “his rod”.

Was looking for something different as I've read most of Jessica halls books, and this hands down delivered.

Not a fan of this one, mainly because one of the men in the harem is straight up AWFUL. He beats the ever loving HELL out of Elora several times, yet she falls in love with him. He literally kills innocent children in front of her as a way to punish her…Yet she falls in love with him. It goes on and on endlessly, and almost none of it is even addressed. It just...happens. Over and over. She is beaten halfway to death, someone gives her blood to heal, and the story goes on, most likely transitioning directly into a smut scene. There is never any real redemption.

I’ve read plenty of dark romance novels but this isn’t one of those. This is glorified abuse and romanticized psychosis at best.

Hard to put down

Seriously, it was hard to put this down. The storyline was amazing and the character growth was above and beyond. I laughed, cried, and got crazy angry. I highly recommend reading this book.

Three stars is for the story in general.
What got me was the massive lack of editing and the wishy washing FMC.
Silas had almost killed her numerous times but as soon as he wiggles his dick at her she practically gets on her knees, begging, please sir can I have some more

This is a pretty good book, there are some grammatical errors, but over all the story is good. This is definitely a dark read, there is physical, mental, and emotional abuse so please use caution when reading. The story ends well, but the idea that the characters will take two steps toward and five steps back is accurately portrayed in this book. Things are now always as they seem. Overall each character grows and learns how to balance their wants from their needs and the needs of others.
