One of my favorites. Kingsolver tells the story the characters, as well as the forest and creatures. Her biological perspective is seamlessly woven into the events of day to day life from a rural farming community. Easy yet inspirational read.

was excited because it was barbara kingsolver whom i love, but all the women characters end up in traditional female roles: relationships, pregnant, or child rearing instead. very disappointing given the character development up until the end. also the characters were just not likable and it was unnecessarily sexual for some reason?

Mostly I liked this book, but it had some real weird/questionable stuff in it that took me out of the story.

After finishing Demon Copperhead, I couldn’t wait to read another novel by Kingsolver. Prodigal Summer was good, but I was less feverish about this one than I was about the latter. Overall, a good story and one I will return to as I continue working through my novel-in-progress because it does a third-person multiple-POV style really well.

Listening to a Barbara Kingsolver novel is like being a fly on the wall for the most beautiful, everyday conversations. Prodigal Summer is the perfect warm weather novel when you’re looking for something down-to-earth and heartfelt.
