As soon as I read the words, "Moth Love" in this book, I was hooked. Kingsolver became famous more for the book Poisonwood Bible, than for this smaller book written afterward, but I think this is the book that really follows her biologist's heart. It covers the stories of 3 people living in the Appalachian hills of Virginia and has the most beautiful descriptions of any book I've ever read. If you love books that highlight the beauty of the natural world, then read this one.

barbara kingsolver’s writing is a gift to earth…i’m always ready to read such sweet writing about appalachia and nature. loved how the cotton eyed joe was referenced lol. and the southern expressions were superior.

character growth was spectacular with this book, i really loved lusa and her settling in to her identity,  working through her grief, and finding her place in the family. ugh. garnett and nannie made me laugh quite a bit and i loved their dynamic. didn’t care too much for the deanna storyline though. the writing could get a little tedious with all the species and descriptions of the setting.

deeply loved how everyone connected

i highly recommend reading this during a hot humid summer! it’s rich + lush.

I felt like a voyeur reading this book, just outside the edge of the room, within hearing distance. Nature is as much a main character as the others. Searingly beautiful.
