Interesting premise, good art, love the spookiness and characters. Some aspects like the big fight at the end of the book were a little Eh for me, I would've been happy for it to stay Horror/Suspense rather than a bit Pacific Rim. But otherwise liked it a lot.

The artwork is beautiful, so is the colouring. The plot is interesting, it begins as a mystery before it unfolds into...something a little different, a sort of ghost story. The fact that the house is a character in itself works very well,

particularly as its consciousness manifests through furniture (poltergeist style).

At times unexpectedly dark. In fact, the house is probably the strongest of the characters, with the most intrigue and complexity, as it appears morally ambiguous, mysterious and unreliable.

The other characters is where the text falters slightly, in my opinion. Their actions/behaviour didn't always make sense, the dialogue felt a bit unnatural or unnecessary in some places, and exposition was handed out at what felt like the wrong moments and in the wrong way. This made the characters a lot less interesting than they could have been, and it made their relationships to each other less plausible. Despite some very dark themes and content, the main characters appear rather childish at times; I suppose they are teenagers, and so this might be both a deliberate representation and a truthful one, yet I don't think the balance here quite works.

But overall, there is enough things going on in this story to make me want to read the next volume when it's out. The excellent illustrations and colouring also make the read worth it.
