Wow. This book made me feel things. Even for the parts that are arguably "predictable," which they really are not completely, this was an enjoyable and thrilling read.

No direct spoilers, but I do sort of give away an important element of the story that could be considered a spoiler, so I’m marking it just in case.

This is a story of hope and healing under the guise of horror and it is absolutely masterful. I was hooked from the very beginning and as much as I enjoyed the thrills and chills that were cleverly woven throughout the whole story, by the end of the story, the undeniable force at work was hope. I appreciated never fully understanding what was going on until right at the very end. Like, you think you have the whole thing figured out for a minute and then you realize that you don’t. Over and over and over. Which is very rewarding if you enjoy that sort of immersion in story-telling.

Absolutely read the after-forward. The author took what is commonly used a horror trope or crime procedural twist and helped give it a compassionate voice. When I say that I cried for the entirety of the last 80 pages as things began to make sense, I’m not exaggerating in the slightest. This was a tragic, beautiful, hideous story about humanity and the lengths one will go to survive.

WOW! This one kept me on my toes the entire time! Following along alone was fine but got exciting when I caught up my friend so we could discuss theories. So I strongly recommend this for a buddy read!
