This book felt so raw, and learning that the author did base some of the situations off of her family makes it even more emotionally charged. I wasn't sure how the book was going to end and there were moments where I was side eyeing the characters hoping they'd make the "right" choices. A throughly engaging book, but definitely check triggers.

I completely love this book. It emotionally destroyed me and made me feel so many complex things.  Spectacularly written and well handled difficult but important topics.

I didn't know what kind of book this was going into it, and had I had warning, I wouldn't have read it.

However, overall, a very talented author who poured heart and soul into Lily's story.

There is no such thing as bad people. We're all just people who sometimes do bad things.

I'm still fairly new to the CoHo world. I've read Verity and Ugly Love and have participated in forums that discuss her novels, so I'm aware that there's an element of emotional anguish that she likes to write about, but I was not prepared for this book. I went into it blind, as I am wont to do, but I should have paid closer attention to the TWs. I am a child of divorced parents, raised by a single mother who fled domestic abuse, so this novel just hit different. Maybe that skews my opinion, but that's the great thing about art & literature - it's subjective. I'm not going to comment any further about the details of the story itself, other than to say that all (yes all) the characters are great (outside of some very, very odd names) and this is a story that needs to be told.

All humans make mistakes. What determines a person's character aren't the mistakes we make. It's how we take those mistakes and turn them into lessons rather than excuses.
