Was it terrible? Undoubtedly. But was I entertained? Oh hell yes. The io9 writeup was right. Batman here is so batshit (ha!) crazy that it's hard for me to take him seriously, thus I read (and mostly enjoyed) this as a parody. See: the ridiculous way in which he trolled Hal Jordan. That was so campy it could have been a scene from the 60s TV show. Also: his gleeful laughter while running across rooftops. And: the sheer number of times he told people to shut up.
So bad it's good?
...kind of, yeah.

I genuinely can’t even put into word at how much I disliked this graphic novel.
The reason I’ve given it two stars is because the art was good and I enjoyed Dicks POV.
The use of slurs, the weird misogynistic tone...who thought this was a good idea.

i tried reading it as a joke but its just so bad dude
Graphic: Child abuse, Emotional abuse, Physical abuse
Moderate: Misogyny
The uhhh... dialogue was really weird in this one, to say the least...
Frank Miller is parodying himself now. Whereas Morrison's "All Star" run on Superman was that, Frank Miller sinks to new lows writing this trash heap. Stay away. For the love of god, stay away.
At first I was surprised at how much of a jerk Batman was. The further I got into the story the more I appreciated the relationship between Batman and Dick Grayson. I haven't read much with Robin, but Dick Grayson seemed to to hold resentment for Bruce Wayne, especially when he took on the mantle of Batman. This story is a retelling of how Dick Grayson came to be Batman. With this story being from his perspective it really explains how Grayson developed that resentment.
One of my favorite scenes was when Green Lantern calls Batman with a bat symbol of sorts. Batman starts with using Hal Jordan's real name just to mess with him and then paints an entire room and himself yellow making fun of the lamest weakness. There a few of these examples throughout the comic. I loved it.

the art was the one redeeming factor here everything else fucking sucked. bruce was borderline psychopathic and just so so unlikeable, the dialogue was weird at times and made no sense, and my GOD how hard is it to not sexualize your female characters like actually one of the alternate covers was literally just diana's ass :/ not a fan.
A lot of people hate this book and while I can see why, I actually enjoyed it. Keep in mind that this is not Batman... not the 'real' Batman anyways. He's way too crazy and he's an asshole but for me, it was a fun read if you are able to read it without that bothering you. That was pretty easy for me, being relatively new to the world of comics. My boyfriend, however, is a huge fan of Batman... and he hated it.
