This book hit the ground running! It was action pact from the beginning.  I enjoyed this thriller! It was fast pace. No big surprises or twist. Lots of tension. Perfect for a tv movie. Jack and Gabe run a security company.  Jack breaks in and Gabe runs the cyber systems. When Jack is arrested during a mission.  She  can't reach Gabe or the client. She gets the client to finally straighten everything out and is released. When she gets home she finds Gabe with his throat cut. Even worse the police think she did it. Jack goes on the run to find Gabe's killer and clear her name.

This book couldn't figure out if it was trying to be a murder mystery or a suspenseful action novel, and it failed spectacularly at both objectives.

I think at this point, I have read all of Ms. Ware's books, which is silly because she is just not my jam! I also realized in this book that I do not like a fugitive story because I just want everyone to sit still for 5 seconds, so I can psychoanalyze them. The pace of the book was pretty fast, but there were also dragging bits about grieving, which slowed things down. The beginning was much too Mr.-and-Mrs.-Smith-rosy-perfect-flirting, which felt really unrealistic. Just not my thing. Also all of the tech speak kind of felt like it was googled and then shoehorned in.

Zero Days by Ruth Ware

⭐️⭐️ (2/5)

Genre: Thriller

About 355 pages

Jack knows her way around security systems better than the average person. She works with her husband, Gabe, to do pen testing. Gabe runs the cyber security tests while Jack tests the on-site/physical security. After what appears to be a normal test, Jack returns home to find her husband dead. She is obviously distressed and determined to find her husband’s killer. But the only person the police are looking at is her. In an effort to prove her innocence and find her husband’s killer, she goes on the run. Not only does she need to evade the police but she must deal with betrayals as she finds out who she can trust.

Starting positive, Ruth Ware’s writing style never fails to hook me. Her books are always fast-paced and hard to put down. While that was true for this book, Ware made it too easy to find out who was responsible for Gabe’s murder VERY early in this book. I was still engaged through the end since Jack’s journey evading the police did have some exciting scenes. However, this one just missed the mark for me 😕
