#ZeroDays by Ruth Ware
āļø Rating: 4.5/5 āļø
Synopsis: An adrenaline-fueled thriller that combines Mr. and Mrs. Smith with The Fugitive about a woman in a race against time to clear her name and find her husbandās murderer.
Hired by companies to break into buildings and hack security systems, Jack and her husband, Gabe, are the best penetration specialists in the business. But after a routine assignment goes horribly wrong, Jack arrives home to find her husband dead. To add to her horror, the police are closing in on their suspectāher.
Suddenly on the run and quickly running out of options, Jack must decide who she can trust as she circles closer to the real killer.
My thoughts: This was my first Ruth Ware read, and I can definitely say Iāll be reading more in the future! I loved this story from the main character Jackās point of view, as she races to find her husbands killer before she is framed for his murder. Her skills as a āpenetration testerā serve her well in this daunting task. At times, this story really got my heart racing!
I did listen to this read as an audiobook, and would definitely recommend this version.

OK this one is largely entertaining in that it has a fast pace & keeps the readers' attention - think a more tech-based 'The Fugitive'. It has one or two issues though: firstly the low level bad guy is wayyy too easy to spot, & secondly, you really have to suspend your disbelief at times. There are also one or two questions I had that are never cleared up. We never find out why the guy at the first company, who was supposed to vouch for Jack if she was apprehended by onsite security, didn't answer his phone. Was that just an unfortunate coincidence or was it engineered somehow to give the killer time to dispatch Gabe? Otherwise the killer would have no idea when Jack would return home, she could have walked in in the middle of the murder. The reader also never finds out who the top masterminds behind it all were, they're just kind of faceless. It's not my favourite of the author's books & I probably wouldn't re-read it. 3.5 stars (rounded up)
