I will pick up anything that Ruth Ware writes.
"Zero Days" is the latest action-packed thriller from Ruth War. Jack and her Husband, Gabe, make a living breaking into different business to help show the businesses where their security is lacking. Jack is on-site being the badass spy she is, while Gabe is working remotely trying to hack the business's computers to help Jack get through the building unscathed. After another successful job, Jack returns home to find Gabe dead. Unfortunately for Jack, she quickly becomes the prime suspect, and she will have to become a fugitive to figure out who killed Gabe and why.
This was such an enjoyable read. Given her background and career choice, it made her character's actions much more plausible. She knows how to hide in plain sight, and she knows how to get to the information she needs. Jack is such a strong character to read about. Despite losing the love of her life horrifically, she is able to pick herself up and fight. She will not stop until she uncovers why Gabe was so brutally murdered.
I really loved how Jack's sister loved and supported her unconditionally and without question. When Jack needed her to do something, or bring her something, she did not bat an eye or question it. She epitomized the "if I had to bury a body, I would call____".
Everything about this book felt real, which made it all the more thrilling. When it is revealed why Gabe was murdered, it made complete sense, and it could 1000% be plausible in today's world. Additionally, every move Jack took made sense. I felt like I was right next to her trying to figure out what was going on.
I could not put this book down, and I binged it all in one day. Ruth Ware is an immensely talented author, and I look forward to seeing what she writes next!

The plot and characters were a fairly well balanced blend of compelling and horrifying. It’s Ware’s typical darkness, arguably turned up a few notches in some of the more harrowing moments. It’s a testament to her talent that she could write characters so well that I could hardly bear to read about their pain and heartbreak.

This wasn't for me. It's for you if you want to read a walking simulator. A woman runs from the police for 95% of the book and I feel bad saying it, but it was real boring. It felt like Ware needed to write something Hollywood-viable so we got lady Jason Bourne without Matt Damon charm. I don't know! If you like heisty action movies, you'll like this! But I don't and didn't. I only go below three stars if I feel actively mad at a book and there's nothing to be mad at here, so three it is.

A woman suspected in the murder of her husband goes on the run and on a mission to find the real killer.
I honestly wouldn't have finished this book. But I got far enough into it before I realized how predictable it was, and it was easier to finish it than DNF. I knew who was behind everything pretty early on. The only thing I didn't know was the motive. I did like the epilogue. But overall, the book wasn't very good. It was on the worse side of okay.

This BREAKS MY HEART to rate a Ruth Ware below a 3, but this was just a miss for me. I didn't really care about Jack's plight; it was just a lot of sitting around being sad and in pain. Which I can feel for. But I'm used to lots of tense adventurous situations from Ware and this was not that. HOWEVER! Imogen Church ABSOLUTELY knocked the narration out of the park. I mean, she's (over) half the reason I read (listen to) Ware books in the first place, but she absolutely nailed Jack's monologues, voice, and pacing. I loved it. I know most people are just listening to audiobooks at 2x speed to get through them, but I absolutely LOVE Church's halting style. It makes it feel like I'M the character. I cannot say enough about her. It's just a shame the story wasn't as strong as her narration.
OF COURSE SHE NAMED THE DAMN BABY GABBY CAN WE BE AT LEAST A LITTLE CREATIVE COME ONE
