I've always found Ruth Ware books, narrated by Imogen Church, to be fairly solid. That's why I keep listening to them. This was an epic miss on every level, starting with the boring, predictable plot. You could probably turn it into a drinking game though: every time the main character mentions how hot or cold she is, you drink. You would die of alcohol poisoning, which seems preferable to reading this book. I also have a very hard time with obnoxious voices whilst audiobooking and this one put me over the edge. Huge miss from an author a generally like.

Jack and her husband are "pen testers" meaning they are hired by companies to break into their offices to give them a report of their security weaknesses. During one assignment jack comes home to her husband with his throat slit. She initially works with the police but when she feels she is a suspect she breaks out of the police station and is on the run trying to figure out the murder herself. The conclusion felt underwhelming and I kept waiting for a twist but everything felt quite obvious. Ended up being her husbands best friend , cole, because Gabe had discovered some security issues with his apps and Cole didn't want the information to be public so he had him killed. One of those books where I wanted to shake the maim character the whole time for her stupid decisions.

Queen spent the entire book running away with no plot in sight. I did guess the killer from lol chapter two it was annoyingly predictable with a boring ending. Also! If you stole bandages and paid for French fries you could have stolen or bought antibiotics for the infected wound!!! Ugh! Dumb girl boss characters don’t work friends!

Fast-paced and plot-driven. If your looking for deep character development and twists, then this isn't the book for you. I did enjoy the "woman-one-the-run" trope and the impact of grief of the MC. Not the most engaging mystery, but it was an enjoyable read.
