Badass superhero story that would be cool to also see as a graphic novel or comic. The mix of magic and human strength make for three intriguing heroines. The fantasy (and sometimes not) horror gore has kind of a Lovecraft Country vibe. Racism is addressed in a way that mostly avoids all the bullshit you find in many stories. We don’t have to hear any of the story from a white person’s point of view and feel sorry for them or understand their “motive”. The heroines are strong, even as they bravely work through their shit, while making their own choices about fighting. Racial violence is written about with the weight it deserves and with strong characters that aren’t messing around with weak ass bullshit.

Although it was difficult for me to feel attached to any of the characters, I loved Bahni Turpin's audiobook narration as always, I enjoyed the gory scenes, and I appreciated the social commentary.

I absolutely loved this! I love the idea of KKK being actual monsters/demons cause THEY ARE!

3.75 Stars rounded up. Good horror book with incredible meaning behind it. I recommend reading this if you want something with creative horror elements, but also displays a painfully realistic picture of American history.

The premise the outline the summary, all 4-5 star ideas. The actual story left me a little speechless when I turned off the audiobook at 80%.

What even happened? I could not tell you what the order of events was in this book. I could name maybe 3 characters when we met SO many.

I loved the idea of the KKK being actual monsters, but that turned into so much more which I believe hurt the overall story. The magical swords and constant songs being sung and demons and other monsters all were thrown in haphazardly which was info overload.

I believe this is more of a fantasy/action story and maybe I will re-visit with that knowledge later on.
