I'll say this for it: It held my interest enough to get me through it. I read a good review of Crouch's latest, and when it wasn't available at the library, went with this one, which sounded intriguing. And intriguing it was, although in a very different way than I expected. My recurring thought throughout reading was, "How did this get published?" It read like a bad novelization of a bad thriller movie (think "Reindeer Games"). The plot moved along so quickly that there was never time to process why anything was happening. Motivations were completely untouched, and all of the characters felt unformed; not one seemed anything like a real person. The final twists in the last 2 chapters were so out of left field as to make one throw the book from a speeding car into a volcano under the ocean in a black hole. I guess what I'm saying is don't read this book.

Some hard to read scenes, but a great thriller.

Started off good and just got weird and unbelievable. Not one of Blake's better ones.

Meh. Not as a good as his other books. The pacing is jerky, there’s a lot of action that happens that requires concentration to follow. It’s not that engaging, and the character motivation feels fairly rudimentary. I guess this was one of those books he was honing his skills on? Nothing like Dark Matter or Recursion.

I’d pass on this, I won’t read it again.

Brilliant!!! Another great Blake read. There are no more Blake Crouch books at my library now that I haven't read. There are more though. Wish I could read them all.

This book started off reasonably well, but deteriorated from then on. The characters' behaviour was not believable and the story line incredibly bad. Disappointing because I have mostly enjoyed the author's books that I have read.

I picked up this book because I was a fan of the Wayward Pines Trilogy and thought I would keep reading a good author. Didn't know what to expect, didn't really care, actually. Turns out...this is exactly the kind of book that I like!

There is a mystery that has plagued this family for 5 years. They are striving to get on with their lives but it's still at the core. Until someone shows up at the door with information and a plan. Kind of.

As the mystery unfurls and adventures take place...things get hinky-er. And it's wonderful!

It's dark. Oh yes. And there is a lot of snow...don't read if it's cold out. But it was good!
