Everyone needs to read this book. Packed with facts, science and first hand stories, not only does it arm you with the information you need to really understand the climate crisis, but also with real solutions for it and the hope that we can make a difference.
The first half of the book provides a hard look at the reality of climate change and how it's affecting everyone and everything right now. It speaks to the many, many warnings that have been ignored and shares the lived experiences of those on the front lines.
The second half of the book was hard work for me, a couple of the essays were a little dry and preachy, but the final essays offered hope, motivation and action steps, something I appreciate. It's all too easy to simply state that the world is on fire and leave everyone to panic and figure it out themselves; presenting solutions in an accessible way helped to counter my climate anxiety and enable me to do something productive.
On a personal note, the book helped me see my own place in the fight for climate justice and the changes I can make to make me a better activist. Specifically that hope is not my strong suit, meaning discussions with others quickly turn into me becoming upset and filled with fear and reacting accordingly. I realise it's important for me to surround myself with hopeful people and information most of the time in order to engage in discussions in a productive way - I can't share a message of hope and achievable change if I am hopeless and afraid.

A collection of essays about the climate emergency and XR's beliefs/methods. Absolutely terrifying, but also hopeful and inspiring. We need to start treating climate change as the emergency that it is and this book is a brilliant tool for this.

This book is so important in our current age, especially with new estimates saying that we only have 7 years to achieve our climate goals otherwise the changes will be irreversible. Anyone who isn't thinking about how they can help
I think this collection of essays is a perfect introduction into the climate crisis for anyone. There is a balance of factual statements and emotion-driven arguments that exposes you to the problems we're facing without overwhelming you with statistics, so although you feel a slight panic about the world you don't get a headache.
This book doesn't provide solutions to the problems, but it's not meant to. It's been written to show people that the way governments are acting is unacceptable and is literally leading us to death, unless we start to hold them accountable and stand up to them. For people who want guides on what to do, don't look to this book because it will not provide that for you. Instead you should read this book if you're not sure why people are so upset about the climate crisis or if you want to learn more about the subject before getting involved.
I would highly recommend this book to everyone. Anyone who cares about the planet or any people at all should try to be more environmentally friendly, making small changes on their own whilst also holding larger companies accountable for their actions. At the end of the day we are one race and we need to protect each other if we want to survive.
