A novel set in a remote Chinese valley with a policeman who is determined to solve the case and break through the difficult political and cultural landscape of rural china. It's very different to anything I've read before and was a breath of fresh air! (and not just because it's set in a rural valley)

This includes some real insight into modern China and the way normal everyday people live their lives.

Slow burn that keeps you guessing, you figure it out just before the main character does, which, in this case is a good thing. The clues are all there and expertly inter woven. Can't wait to see what comes next (hint for more books) for inspector Lu Fei, (and Yanyan).
