Ali Hazelwood, will you please write my to do lists?

Problematic Summer Romance is such a great book! Ali’s signature banter is always so fun to read, and Maya and Conor are top notch! All my favorite characters from the first book made a comeback in the same fun, delightful ways, and I wish we could spend more time with them. Seriously, I would read another 400 pages of wedding shenanigans.

As usual, I loved this so much that I finished the book immediately wanting more. More of Ali’s writing, more Maya and Conor, more Rue and Eli, more ~everything~

Read this book if you love
🩵 right person, wrong time
🩶 forced proximity
🩵 Sicilian villas
🩶 dry humor
🩵 funny yet emotional masterpieces

As usual, Ali Hazelwood lives up to the hype. 5 stars.

This book has confirmed for me that Ali Hazelwood has placed a curse on me. I was adamant that I was not going to read this book as I am not a big fan of age gaps. Yet I somehow found myself getting this book on loan through Libby…I finished the book to conclude all the drama introduced and I was entertained by the jokes and banter but the age gap was not for me. I’ve read other reviews and the consensus is that it was stated ad nauseam how problematic the age gap was and they were right. Any time I was anticipating any progression between Maya and Conor the age gap was mentioned and it completely took me out of their romance. Like do we actually want them to get together? Also everything about Conor was so contradictory, it was incredibly infuriating. I also think Maya doing all the chasing was on purpose in order to not implicate Conor in any grooming allegations but the lengths Maya went were so ridiculous. The manipulation, the mind games, the jealousy, her begging him for sex. I needed Maya to have a stronger will. I’m not convinced that a relationship between the two of them is healthy. Conor is so concerned for her virtue and the power imbalance between them, his feelings and desire for her just don’t feel justified. If he really didn’t want to have relations with her he wouldn’t have. Like he’s pushing forty and in therapy I would imagine that he’d be more capable of deciding whether being infatuated with an immature 20 year old and pining after her for 3 years is not a great idea. Also the ending was so nothing, like they got engaged…I don’t see them making it to the wedding.

In which a hot Irish kendall Roy is wooed by a genius.  Some of Hazelwood’s absolute finest work. I am judging and giving marks based on general banter, level of emotional depth and character development and the number of succession references. It’s very good.

Loved it but the age gap was a bit critical even if its the topic. 15 years is A LOT for a 23 year old woman

Its always fun to get a romance that is in the same universe as others and it was great to revisit Eli and Rue's story here.  I didn't mind the age gap at all and thought it was fun that Maya kept poking Conor about it.  However, I did find her constant pushing him past his laid out boundaries a little ick - I get that Conor was feeling similarly about Maya, but something about the way she spent a lot of time pressuring him really brought down the rating for me.

It’s so easy to get into Ali Hazelwood’s writing. It’s very familiar and I generally have a good time with her books. There were moments in this where I wished she had been a bit more descriptive in her writing but regardless, I read this in one sitting and it was fun.
