book started off really well with the first story but overall… meh. writing styles were a bit jarring, dialogue was stilted and i just found the book kinda uninspiring. maybe it’s a personal preference but for me, love should be written about in beautiful and flowing prose and not at the mercy of awkward and cliché conversations.

regardless, still really nice to read black british love stories! but yeah.

I was so excited when my book club announced what our February read would be. I was so blown away by the imaginative, tactile, diverse stories in this anthology. I really didn’t want it to end! I just finished it though & it was sublime. Thank you to all the talented writers for sharing their work with us & thank you to Sareeta Domingo  for collating this! It was so nice reading plots where people who looked like me were represented. I give it a 5/5!  This is for you if you like diverse, romantic love stories with a hint of spice!

Wow! I absolutely loved this book. It was everything I needed and more. This was my first time reading an anthology and l enjoyed it as my first experience. The stories were beautifully written and made me think about love from many different perspectives. Some stories made me cry, some literally took my breath away and some stretched my brain and way of thinking about the concept of love.

I loved that the collection of authors featured women of color. I also appreciated the diverse topics that were explored through the collection. Each author had a unique writing style that made me curious and interested in reading more of their work.

My favorites stories were:
Rani by Amna Saleem
Motherland by Sara Jafari
My Heart Beats by Dorothy Koomson

Overall, I would give this overall book a 4/5. What would given me a 5/5 would have been if all the stories were equally heart jerking. Some of the stories I think could have been written a little better. There were some stories that were a tad bit confusing and had some loose strings that I feel still could have been tied up. There were also some stories where I was hoping to get more information out of so I could have gotten a full picture of what was trying to be portrayed. The worst I would rate an individual story, in this anthology, would have been a 3/5 which still isn’t bad!

Other than that this was a beautiful collection!

Who's Loving You is a collection of ten love stories by Women of Colour. The major theme of the book is love, love in all forms and I think that is what I enjoyed most about this collection- the mixed bag of chips. Of the ten stories my favorites were:
LONG DISTANCE by Varaidzo
RANI by Amma Saleem
RAIN.... DOUBTFUL by Kuchenga
NO ONE IS LONELY by Rowan Hisayo Buchanan
MY HEART BEATS by Dorothy Koomson
Special mention to BRIEF ENCOUNTERS by Sara Collins.

I think the collection overall needed tightening but the stories that were good, were amazing. I could not get enough of the granddaughter who inherited letters from her Grandmother- how her grandmother would tell her a story on her birthday- what a tradition. Of the young writer who wrote for an AI stove- yes! In her world, stoves and blenders could talk. As I said, the stories that were good, were really good.

I also love the title and I guess it's a question I need to answer.... WHO'S LOVING YOU?
