A charming, bittersweet, gritty collection of unique, multifaceted human experiences. I liked how they were arranged, with the soulmate themes established in the very first, The Watchers, running convincingly throughout. Speaking of The Watchers, it was perhaps my favourite story, alongside Rani and Motherland. This was actually the first book that I had to tab to remember particularly beautifully written sections. There were a few stories I wasn’t entirely keen of but that’s to be expected in a collection of stories, and these were outweighed by the beauty of others. An important collection, reflecting many different experiences of love, personal growth and identity.
Minor: Transphobia and Child death

A throughly enjoyable collection of short love stories by women of colour. Each one should be savoured individually and they all excelled in various ways. I don’t usually read short stories or collections but will be recommending this one
Moderate: Medical content, Sexual content, Slavery, and Toxic relationship
Minor: Transphobia
