I'm just a fan of the Leia Organa and Claudia Gray duo. BIG FAN.
This is an amazing book. The symbolism, the characters, well done Claudia Gray. The only criticisms are the romance is a bit overdone at times, though necessarily in order to set up for the climax, and there are a few loose ends that didn't quite get resolved, though not nearly as bad as In Bloodline. Overall, delightful book, I recommend it.

It was good. I enjoyed it and her character was spot on. I would have loved it more if I read it back in my starwars obsession back in highschool.

As far as I'm concerned, the new Star Wars canon has been knocking them out of the park. Even the books I haven't been swept away by are still quality works of fiction. Hell, not everything made for Star Wars has to be made for me.
(But they should be. Just to be clear.)
But Princess of Alderaan is one of those books that's just undeniably good. We get to see Leia at sixteen years old, three years before the events of A New Hope and maybe about a year before her cameo in Rebels. Claudia Gray succeeds in making Leia her own character and telling a self-contained story, all the while laying bare the character development that will inevitably lead her to be the young woman we all know and love.
Ms. Gray has been killing it in the franchise playground. Her novel Bloodline (to which Princess of Alderaan is basically a prequel) was thoroughly enjoyable, despite falling flat in a few places for me, and Lost Stars was one of the most refreshingly original stories in the universe I've seen in a while.
Put this book in the hands of any Star Wars fan, but especially if they're a teen who wants a heroine able to balance court intrigue and combat.

This was such a great book! It was my first novel I have read this year and my god it was awesome!
Just seeing the origin stories for Leia, one of the most imp. characters in SW and like the way Claudia goes about crafting such a great origin for her was so awesome and yeah I am kinda emotional having completed this book but its perfect in every sense of the word and I can't compliment it enough again.. its just so so good.
Focusing on her teenage years, as she is growing up and wants to play a more active role in the goings on in her royal family, I love the way the author gets her voice and plays up the relationship with her father and mother and I love the way she explores both of them. The father played a big role in clone wars and rebels but getting to see it here from her POV was awesome and I like how throughout the book you feel tension and a sense of bonding between the two again as he shares his biggest secret of rebellion with her and by the end how they come closer than ever is so awesome and I love how the author delves into the adoption part too. Maybe she is not his biological daughter, but she is his daughter no matter what.
I love the part with her mother and how the author explore Breha Organa because the other stuff barely mentions or explores her but here she is shown as a powerful ruler but also an inspiring mother who would do anything for her daughter and the lesson she imparts onto her and I love that. We see the origin of why she was not able to conceive and all and then her feelings for Leia, how she always worries for her daughter and yet finding a way to teach her to be brave and its so well done. Its through her we see that Leia wants to complete the day of demand challenges to the best of her abilities and live upto their expectations and surpass it even and I love that.
The whole Apprentice legislature was a great idea and I love the challenges and adventures Leia goes through there and the friends she meet especially Amilyn holdo who I love. Her nature and her thinking prowess, her boldness but her dedication for freedom and not letting her voice be silenced, outspoken yes but for the right things and throughout the book you see her closeness with Leia, how initially they hates each other and by the end they were the best of friends so when you watched episode 8 her sacrifice rings harder and I just love it so much more.
The romance with Kier I knew wouldn't last long because Han but my god I love the moments between them and by the end what happens to him will shatter you and its sad, but seeing Leia's reaction to it is even sadder and maybe that informs of her romance with Han and why initially she was skeptic and closed off, but wow this does a great job of showing why and makes you appreciate the latter relationship even more.
I like the mission she embarks onto especially on Wobani, seeing the cruelness of the empire first-hand on that scale and how sometimes even good intentions are not enough and that is so well played here. The one on Onoam aka Naboo's moon was another great one and I love how she meets the queen there and there are hints of Padme and all that especially when she meets the Moff there and it was a good easter-egg and I love it for sure. There are a lot of other locations in this book they go to especially Coruscant which I love and so for that I think people will like it a whole lot more because of it. There are new worlds I am sure but others mentioned or there for a few pages which connects it to different eras of SW and I just love it. Others will find it as easter-eggs and try to connect it all and be successful so thats another good thing about it!
Overall its a book with so much love for the characters and the world of SW that you can't help but love it even more and by the end just have a blast reading it! SO do read it for sure!!
