😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍

Fair. The character could have been further developed. I also wished it brought us closer to how Leia became the young woman in A New Hope. This felt too disconnected from the greater lore.

3.5 stars

Claudia Grey is definitely my favourite of the New Star Wars authors. I have liked Bloodline and Lost Stars too.

I enjoy Grey’s take on Leia. It’s been consistently strong and this book is no exception. Here we have teen Leia who is requesting the right to be seen as the heir to the throne of Alderaan. She has to complete three challenges to prove herself worthy and as she does she meets interesting people (Kier and Holdo), visits interesting planets (including meeting her birth mother’s head of security on a moon of Naboo), and learns a deep secret, a rebellion is brewing.

I like the foreshadowing to the eventual fate of Alderaan that goes through this book and the last line feels like someone squeezing your heart, because Leia believes there are things the Empire can never take away. But we’ve all seen A New Hope!

This is the Princess Leia you've wanted to know!

Claudia Gray does a fantastic job in giving us the Leia who is on the cusp of young girl and a woman.

We find out more about the Royal House of Alderaan and how their Crown Royals obtain their place in line for succession to the throne. Gray introduces us to Leia's first love and to a young Amilyn Holdo.

Bail Organa felt true and honest to what we've seen in the movies and The Clone Wars & Rebels shows as well. Queen Breha was more than I could have hoped for. Leia certainly takes a lot of her qualities into herself as well as those of Bail Organa...and we get the feisty and headstrong Princess that we first met back in 1977 in Star Wars: A New Hope.

This book has to be my favorite of the new Star Wars stories! I loved every second of the book. I was concerned that it would not do my favorite character justice, but Claudia Gray was spot on. It set up a refreshing take on Leia, while still meshing well with Carrie Fisher's portrayal on the original movies. I like that it also touched on aspects of Leia's force abilities that were previously only in the Legends book, without being overbearing. I would recommend this book to any Star Wars fan!

This book was SO FUN. Finally a backstory for my favorite princess.

Claudia Gray continues to be the best single author working in Star Wars right now. Her stories of Leia and the others all feel more essential than the other novels and comics, because while they contribute meaningfully to the history of the galaxy, they also show us a consistent and true-to-mythology voice by which these characters come alive on the page.
