This book was wonderful! It’s the story of Leia, as she’s earning her right to be the crowned princess. Claudia Gray captured the true character of Leia and I loved the Easter eggs that still connected it to the greater Star Wars universe. It’s made me want to rewatch the movies, as I had to google, multiple times, various characters and planets.

Leia, Princess of Alderaan takes place 3 years before A New Hope, when Leia is just 16 and is preparing to be named crown princess.

I am not a SW fangirl. I like it fine, but I've nothing more than a passing interest. But I had gotten this one for my kid a while ago and I have read, and liked, Claudia Gray before, so I decided to give this one a go. I just wanted you to know where I was coming from when I read this. Your results may vary.

I thought this was a fun read. We got a LOT of familiar names and a bit of back story on the beginnings of the rebellion. I was into this one for the most part, but found that it drug a little in the very end. I also found the climax to the book to be kind of lacking. It felt like it just ended with a whimper. Still, overall, I did enjoy it. I might even read more of the modern SW novelizations if I come across them at some point.

Leia: Princess of Alderaan: Or, Badass Rebel Buns in the making

Ever wonder what Princess Leia was like before A New Hope? Or how she was raised on Alderaan? Well, this book answers those questions in a fun, interesting way. We finally get to go inside a teenage Leia's head and see how intelligent, empathetic, and witty she was.

Some things are better left to the imagination, but this beautiful insight into our favorite space princess was a welcomed story.

Leia: Princess of Alderaan was slow to start, but it was such a pleasure to read about Leia's journey throughout this story. She was very much a Teenager and super curious about things and I loved how Claudia Gray introduced her to the Rebellion and gave us some info on how this Leia became the Leia we're so used to from the movies.

This was a surprisingly good book. Had it had nothing to do with characters we already know, I would have enjoyed the story. But it does and she does a good job capturing their essence and submerging us in a world that’s already familiar. The intrigue and tension kept me picking it up again and again.

Absolutely fantastic: the Leia-learning-how-to-save-the-galaxy / coming-of-age story I didn't know I needed. Horribly bittersweet at the end, as well, given, y'know, what happens. (ALDERAAN! WHY??)

Read this.
