A solid prequel, with good emotional payoff if you also read Bloodline (the author's other Leia book).

I'm so glad I finally picked this one up because it was on my shelves for a while.
I really kind of wish I read this before The Last Jedi because it actually gave a lot of background to some of the things in the movie. Not that you need to read this book to understand the movie but it was a really nice addition to have.
I have loved Star Wars since I was young and I've watched the movies so much and when the new trilogy happened I was sooo excited. I literally started crying when the opening credits run and we heard that music. I've also recently watched The Mandalorian which is honestly THE BEST! But this is the first time I've jumped in the novels in Star Wars and MAN there is thousands of books and that will never be all read by me but I'm so excited to have picked up one.
I really liked Leia's story in this. She has just turned 16 and she is doing these challenges to prove herself to be a princess for Alderaan. She is young and free before the rebellion is thrusted upon her and she has to grow up very quickly. She is 19 when she comes into the movies so we get to see her journey start here.
It was great going to familiar worlds and seeing characters pop up that we know even if they were only for a cameo. It was all added in very well.
I highly recommend this if you are a star wars fan and want more.

It’s great! I’d really want Claudia to write even more books just about Leia ❤️

I ended up with the audiobook here and... it's pronounced Tan-tiv-e. I am amazed that I've been saying that wrong the whole time. Apparently it's said that way in Rogue One, but I missed it.

The story is charming but not earth-shattering (Dark Disciple and Ahsoka were better) The audiobook reading is well done. Was interesting to see young Holdo and Leia's interactions.

4.5 stars

Star Wars consistently has the best audiobooks around - it is a completely immersive experience.

Wonderful book, as I expected it to be. Nice characterization of our favorite princess as a teenager, and I loved the look into customs and culture on Alderaan. Plus the little connections to The Last Jedi (Admiral Holdo as a spacey teen!) and to Gray's other Leia book, [b:Bloodline|8709527|Bloodlines (Bloodlines, #1)|Richelle Mead|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1297199431s/8709527.jpg|13582374]. If Claudia Gray could just write a Star Wars book every year, I would die happy...

I loved this look at 16-year-Old Leia. This was filled with gobs of Star Wars Easter eggs. It gave me a new view of Leia, the Resistance, and what was really at stake to go against Palpatine and the Empire.

This was an easy and fun read, with a few gut-punches for good measure. It's always a treat to revisit the Star Wars universe, and this time with young versions of a few beloved characters and a glimpse into what went into making them as beloved as they are.

It was great to watch Leia grow up, and to witness the birth of a few of her most long-standing friendships. I very much enjoyed this.
