Claudia Gray does it again! This one starts off a little slower than Lost Stars, but the second half of the book, especially, is incredible.

The book provides Leia's full ascent to becoming the princess of Alderaan and her time in the Apprentice Legislature, learning the skills she'll need as senator and a member of the rebellion.

Most surprising to me is all the backstory we got on Holdo in this book. She was a fine character in the new films, but I love her after getting to know her better in her teenage years.

I don't really think this captured the spirit of the Leia we all know and love, but it's a coming of age book before Leia participates in the rebellion so I think this character change is ok. Leia hasn't had to endure any of the harsh conditions that turn her into who she is in the original movie. I really enjoyed the new worlds Leia visited, as well as Breha and Mon Mothma's struggle to bring the rebellion into being. Seriously, Breha almost always gets left out in every other discussion of the rebellion's beginnings!

I would definitely recommend this book to Star Wars lovers!
