Claudia Gray strikes gold again. She has become my favorite Star Wars writer and an instant buy every time. This book is a beautiful and moving look at what it means to grow up, to learn to think beyond yourself, to weigh all the options when trying to make the world better. I can not recommend it enough.

3.5 stars for this fun, action packed adventure. I love Star Wats books and don't allow myself time to read this as much as I should. This was fun, I loved getting to know Leia as a teenager. Recommend if you are a big Star Wars fan.

It's hard to get excited about a prequel because while you read it, you know the outcome of the story. However, this prequel is both surprising and entertaining.

Fans of the franchise know a lot about Princess Leia Organa because she has been one of the only notable female characters in Star Wars for years, however, there is a lot about her childhood that hasn't been addressed - or, at least, if it has it is now considered "legend." This book dives deep into her first significant steps into her political career and her discovery of the rebel alliance. The films confirm that Leia eventually becomes a senator in her own right, as well as an important member of the alliance and the eventual resistance. This book shows you how she chose to follow that path.

What fans don't get to see in the films is Leia's relationship with her family and the people she serves as princess of Alderaan. When the films begin, Alderaan and the Organa's are destroyed. Here we get to see a young Leia push her parents, learn from her parents, and prove to them that she is no longer a young girl who needs to be protected from the galaxy. What's more, this story shows Leia growing into the strong woman she is in the films. She begins to see how the system is corrupt and, for better or worse, the ways she can work around the system.

This story keeps readers on their toes because it introduces a new set of characters and circumstances that are never mentioned in the films, allowing there to be real consequences to Leia's actions without ruining established canon. If anything, the consequences of Leia's actions in this book actually help fans better understand some of her actions in the films - it certainly explains the way she treats a few of her fellow heroes.

If you are hemming and hawing about reading this book, just commit. I was afraid that it would be a childish story about an insignificant part of our favorite General's life, but that is far from the case. This book gives Leia even more depth and helped me better understand and relate to her as a character.

Would you like to know what it was like for Leia to be a princess? Or even to be a teenager?
The trials Leia goes through to prove not only to her parents that she is worthy of being a princess but worthy to herself. The Leia at the beginning of this book is not the same at the end. Highly recccomend

After reading Claudia Gray's Lost Stars, I was impressed. In my opinion, Lost Stars is one of the best books in the new Star Wars canon. With Leia, Princess of Alderaan, I'm happy to report that Gray brings the same amazing qualities that made Lost Stars so successful and applies them to Leia. This book is filled with wonderful characterizations and intrigue. Gray is also very talented at describing the Star Wars universe. What makes this book however is Leia’s characterization. Claudia Gray has a knack for this character’s voice. You really feel like you understand Leia much better after reading this novel.

This is a YA novel detailing Leia’s rise as a rebel and leader. In Leia, we are introduced to a very different Princess than the senator and general in Gray's Bloodline (and who we see in TFA and TLJ). The Leia Organa here is sixteen, and different than the polished and hardened politico we’ve become accustomed to in the recent films. She’s different, even, than the Leia seen in the novelizations set between the original trilogy films or immediately afterwards. This is our exposure to Leia, pre-Alderaan destruction—a devastating loss that will color her narrative and character development in all subsequent books and films. This Leia is close to her parents, already weighed with the burden of responsibility for her people and her planet, but also as a humanitarian and leader for the entire galaxy.

In short, this book is beautiful (loved the descriptions of Alderaan), clever, heartbreaking (Leia learns about lost and sacrifice at such a young age), and revelatory.

If you're a Star Wars fan, you'll most likely enjoy this book.

I hope Disney and Claudia Gray will team up for one more Leia book: A book explaining her last days and her death (as we all know the next film will most likely be set at least a few years after TLJ). This would be the perfect entry point to give us background information going into the next J.J. Abrams Star Wars adventure.

I really wanted to love this book but I struggled through most of it. The writing was just meh and took me out of the story.

This is a great origin story that offers insight into Leia as a character and makes the decisions she makes it the Star Wars movies more meaningful. The author did a great job at weaving in details of setting and character as both nods to the original series and giving more information on the Star Wars world as a whole.

As far as this story existng as the "Journey to Star Wars The Last Jedi," it does not provide the character development of Admiral Holdo that I was expecting considering she is such a pivotal character in the movie. It establishes that Leia and her knew each other, worked together, and that she trusted her, but does not completely justify the choices in the movie.

Overall, a great read especially done for YA which represents the age of Leia in the story. Expanded my Star Wars knowledge in a fun way.
