Jane in Love is a novel about Jane Austen time traveling to the future in a hope to find her true love. Only, at first, she does not realize that she is being sent to the future. She thinks that Mrs. Sinclair is a quack and swindler. I mean, does a love potion really sound like something that the Jane Austen would believe in? She is practical and her skills of practicality tell her that her chances of finding a husband are fairly low. At 28, she is too old and wise to attract the attention of a man. So, when she mysteriously lands in the future, she decides that a change of scenery might do her some good. I think time travel would be both amazing and scary. You get to see so many new inventions and customs but it would feel very disorientating to not know a single person in the time period that you are visiting. Jane get along really well and she does manage to find her true love in Fred the history teacher. But, as her written work disappears, Jane realizes that she can never marry because her only real and true love is writing. So, Jane Austen gave up her happiness to write all of the amazing classics that many readers enjoy to this day. Austen must have been a really determined woman because I do not know of many people who could continue working on their dreams without being encouraged to do so. She never knew that anyone would read her books so she really was just writing for the sake of writing, I guess. She is the reason that many women have the rights that they have today. She was a pioneer for women in the workplace and I wish she could see how many people admire her work today. I feel like she would be really happy to learn that all of her work meant something to the people of the future. My only complaint about this book is how predictable it was. As readers, we know that Jane Austen wrote all of these books because they exist today. So, it was clear all along that she would have to give up her relationship with Fred. I spent a lot of the book just reading along and waiting for it. I would have liked a few more twists and turns in the book.

I loved this! The time travel aspect was fun & I liked how Jane's past was her future & vice versa. I liked potentially getting to know the actual Jane Austen, too.
Sophia's story was also heartwarming & a lot hit close to home.

While a fun premise, this book was filled with so many tropes.

To be fair, it was a Goodreads Giveaway and on the edge of what I normally read. I honestly have not read any Jane Austen.
