Back in the Country is a brilliant debut novel from Alexandra Hale. She has created a family and small town full of character and heart that you want to visit again and again. You want to be invited home for chicken potpie or meet a friend for a meal at Smokin’ Joes or enjoy the music at Brew, Q ‘n Boogie.
This book is full of giggles and snort-laugh moments, melt your heart and teary moments and several please-pass-me-the-fan moments. Marlee and Waylon have a realism to them that I loved, from their appearance to their strengths, flaws and insecurities. I loved Waylon’s protectiveness and loyalty, and hurt for his doubts about his worthiness. I loved it when Marlee found her voice and made sure the men in her life heard her. I look forward to returning to Clementine Creek.

The way I did a double take when I realize that this is the author's debut novel. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was a easy and light read.I also love the tropes and honestly I'm not a big fan of small town romance (I don't read alot of them) but this was reeally good.

Marley attended college and worked in Nashville for several years before returning to his small hometown of Tennessee to care for his brother who was wounded in a military campaign. She is determined to reunite with her childhood crush, Waylon, who is also her brother's boyfriend.

This little book was good, steamy, with a good plot and characters.

I liked the story of Marlee and Waylon, being his brother's best friend but loving her since they met but unable to do it because it is "forbidden", she goes to study in the city but returns after a while and is determined to have Waylon since she is in love. The story of these two was cute, in the sense that although it has its drama and its doubts, they fight for each other, in addition to the fact that Waylon's family is a beautiful thing.

It was a good start and a good introduction to this whole series and this small town

Thanks to Alexandra Hale & The Author Agency for the ebook copy in exchange for my honest review 📚!!

- Dual POV

First off, Back in the Country comes in at under 250 pages, so it is a quick read. For this reason, things pick up pretty quickly between Way and Marlee. The prologue takes place six years earlier when Marlee asks Way for her high school graduation gift: one night with him. He agrees but only if it takes place when she’s 21. She says yes and then we move forward to the present day, when Marlee moves home to Clementine Creek after studying and working in Nashville.

The pair instantly pick up from where they left things and it doesn’t take them long to begin a relationship. I’m not the biggest fan of instant love (give me all the build-up and tension), so things moved a little too fast for me personally. But I know it’s kind of a given with a shorter book.

Nonetheless, Marlee was a great character. You could feel her love for her hometown throughout the pages and how it was the only place she wanted to be, despite her brother’s hesitations. Meanwhile, I liked Waylon at times, but I didn't appreciate him pushing Marlee away (twice). I also don't think the breakup was necessary for a book so short. But it was good to see Marlee stand up for herself and make both her brother and Way realise they are the problem, not her.

Overall, this book and the writing style didn't quite capture my attention like most small-town romances do. But I'll try again with book two!

 I ADORED THIS STORY!!

Oh my my my! This book was so sweet and fun and romantic 🥰

The adult bedroom times are open door but super explicit. You still FEEL their chemistry though 😍

This book is about two souls who find each other when they are young and drift side by side until it’s time for them to become one. So so beautiful!

I love how Marlee the FMC has a different relationship with each of Waylon’s brothers and how she has been a part of his family since she was seven.

Their story is all big wear it on your sleeve heart ❤️

Off to the extended epilogue I go!
