Audio was hard for me to follow. Just when I would get into a story it would stop, go to another, and then come back.

Vivid writing

Excellent writing, good stories but compilations of short stories is not really my thing. I did enjoy the book but wanted more when each story ended.

It took me awhile to get through these stories, because honestly many of them started to sound the same, or at least have the same rhythm. I did enjoy many of the stories and appreciated that they highlighted the perspectives of transcultural people from the US and South America. I think many of the stories were directly drawn from Berlin's life and experiences with alcoholism.

This book was the best thing I’ve read in years. A collection of short stories that is life changing. It’s about life, a whole life, all the good and the bad and the whole. It’s about raising a family, being an alcoholic, fighting for what you love through addiction. It’s about raw America, falling from affluence, poverty, drugs.. and at times it’s very hard to read. But every sentence is worth it. I truly cried deep sobs, and I laughed out loud and most importantly- I felt. It’s tender and scary and thoughtful and everyone should read this.
*I took little notes about each story after I was done reading, and it really helped me process everything.

Read half audio book/ half on paper.
