If you come at this as a generic Sci-Fi it is quite enjoyable but there is a lot of Halo lore that is needed to fully understand the book

Murder mystery Halo style! Well, not so mysterious as I figured out the killer before the characters, but still awesome. Loved the ending.

A perfect book for fans of the games (like me :D) The text was incredibly precise and I enjoyed the changing POV in the chapters. All around a great read!

Easily one of the top three Halo novels I've read (alongside The Fall of Reach and Cryptum). Looking forward to Denning's Master Chief novels!

4.5 stars really, it was a very enjoyable sci-fi book and I don't play the game HALO. I don't read sci-fi a lot so this took me awhile to get through and it took me alittle time to sort out the story. But I absolutely loved the book. I love all the Spartans interactions and the way the worked with Veta really added something. And then the political and social interactions were great And added a really cool depth the the normal battle and war scenes. Then there is the flirtacious interactions between Veta and Fred and the cute sexual tension moments that made me fangirl. And the ending was great because of Veta and the Gammas along with the chace of Arlo getting fucked over. A really great sci-fi book to someone who doesn't often read straight sci-fi.

I'm torn. On one hand I want to like it because of the references and the story is really cool, but on the other hand there were some major flaws that detracted from my enjoyment. There are some references I don't get, and they are never elaborated on. Some characters seem to have no or little motivation for the drastic actions they take. Reasoning be damned! And there is a lot of unprofessionalism from the Spartans that just is like.. really? these are the best soldiers in the navy? Meh.
