Enjoyable retelling of The Pauper and the Prince with Arabian nights elements. The story is a good but gets stuck in several places. Not the magic of The Shadow Queen but a decent addition to that world.

Javan Najafai, the crown prince of Akram, broke my heart. Sent away to school at a young age after his mothers death, he spent years trying to live up to her dying wish and his fathers expectations. When his graduation comes and his father doesn't show, Javan feels lost and is left wondering if his father even still cares. And then some attempts to take his life.
This is the story of a false prince of sorts. Javan is taken and thrown into a prison in his own city while an impostor sits next to his father, ready to take the thrown from an ailing king. Javan must try to find away out of the prison and to his father - not only to save his father, but to save his kingdom.
I am loving this series. Each book stands on their own but also fit together to create this full world with kingdoms that come alive. We've met dragons, witches, fae, elves and humans. The Traitor Prince is no different. I loved Javan and his heart. I felt his pain and disappointment and his loneliness. And also his heartache. His strength was set in his devotion to his father and his people. This wasn't just a story about trying to reveal the false king, it was a story about a boy growing into the man who will rule. And I was here for it!
Redwine continues to keep me invested in this series and I cannot wait for the next one to come out - I've heard it's a Cinderella of sorts. If you love fairy tale retelling, check this series out.

Ok. I’m starting a new rating system. Don’t think this book is trash just because I gave it 3 stars. It was good but do predictable and I found myself skimming some. Definitely not as good as the other 2.

An absolutely thrilling addition to an enchanting series. Redwine took her characters and ruthlessly walked them along the fine line between life and death— I couldn’t read fast enough. Cannot wait for what’s next in this series.

This was an interesting book, it took me a while to get into and I wouldn’t rush to read it again, but I did enjoy it once it got going. I haven’t heard of the Prince and the Pauper before so for this retelling I started reading without knowing how it would turn out. I would have liked to hear more about the traitor Prince and his goings on in the castle as I felt like there wasn’t enough from him, but I did enjoy the flow of the storyline.
Overall, it was a good book, and I enjoyed the ending but it wasn’t my favourite book of the Ravenspire series.
