Between the writing style, the excessive unnecessary details, and a plot point I really don't like I'm DNFing this book at 5%.
The author chose to write this book in a third person perspective, that I don't mind, but I hate that there's thoughts to the main character added in as well. personally I'm not a fan of it, but to each their own.
She also uses the same words a lot, which got a bit annoying. I understand that they're common words, but there's synonyms for those words as well.
I understand that this is a thriller, mystery, suspense book. However going 23 pages with zero context at all to anything happening is just not for me.

At one point Alex tells the nurse he wants to take Marla home and hellbent on her waking up, angry that she hasn't yet. Then not even 10 pages later he's giving up on her, saying he doesn't know if she'll pull through.
One line I HATED was on page 15, "Certainly her intuition, the female animal in her would sense that she was a mother." Where's the girl on booktok with the spray bottle?
The final page that did it for me was on page 23, the last paragraph. I don't care for those plot points, I just don't like that kind of drama.

With that said, this book started at a 5 star and I slowly took off points as I read. I first took off .5 for the thoughts and 3rd person perspective combined. then .5 for the repetitive words. .3 for the huge amount of lack of context. A whole 1 star for the "female animal" comment.
I didn't take off anything for the plot point I don't enjoy, that wouldn't be fair.

Well written with lots of twists and turns, but the ending came together very fast. I’m not sure the mystery was as clearly explained as it could have been.

I really enjoyed this book. I think it is my favorite one of her books so far (though it is only the third or fourth one I have read so far). I will continue to read her books and can’t wait to read the next one in this series. Overall I give this book a 4.5 but rated up since I enjoyed it so much.

"Left with fractured memories following the car accident that nearly took her life, Marla Cahill finds herself surrounded by a family of strangers and in deadly danger from a twisted killer who fears what she may remember." (From Amazon)

I enjoyed this romantic suspense with a lot of psychological thriller. (2004)
