Another little adventure murder mystery for Pen and Des. I like how unique these stories are even if we end up in theological discussions about a fictional world :)

This one includes Pens new friends/colleagues and centers around a sorcerer who has been murdered and the disappearance of the demon. And all the things an investigator has to take into account in trying to solve the puzzle. It ends well, I like all the dry humor, from the princess to Des, and we get hints that there are some love interests happening. Fun!

Pen is a great character, humble, funny and self-deprecating.

Ok writing, nothing special. Rather bland, honestly. And the constant plot holes was pretty annoying.
Why aren’t they carrying the kits? They’re WALKING THEM all the way? Seriously?

I feel that this series is starting to become a bit formulaic at this point - although I want to know more about the characters and the world - the mystery aspects hold me less.

I'm clearly not reading these in the right order but it doesn't necessarily matter. I love LMB's storytelling, worldbuilding, and the clarity of her characters. This is something of a whodunnit, but one with a lot of interesting detail and discoveries
