I love a good anthology and this was a great one. Each story has a different perspective, a different horror, a different voice. Along with monsters, we see real horrors that many Native people deal with. Loved this from start to finish

I would say some of the stories were interesting, but for the most part when they say dark they mean somewhat graphic abuse. I will say a lot of them were thought provoking, but most of the topics are not things I want to think deeply about. Going in I thought dark would be more spooky. I did not like the book and some of the stories will haunt me, so I guess it achieved its goal of horror.

I rarely find anthologies where pretty much all the stories are solid, but this was one. Maybe it was because they were all very short, maybe they were just all written by great authors, but I really enjoyed this anthology. I'm excited to be walking away with a list of new authors to read, as so many of these stories were by folks I've never read before. Definitely a strong and well-curated collection.

WOW. this was so so good. Maybe I like horror books???? Took off half a star since i had to skip one story for graphic r*pe (Sundays by David Heska Wanbli Weiden) so if that’s something you try to avoid, skip that story as well since it’s a major theme and plot point. Definitely check trigger warnings! Such a great mix of supernatural horror and just humans being plain ol horrifying.

2,28 star avergae out of 5 for all stories, but I still thoroughly enjoyed getting snippets of various cultures and stories from authors I've never heard of. Personally my top 5, in no particular order is:

  • Limbs, Waubeshig Rice
  • Kushtuka, Mathilda Zeller
  • Hunger, Phoenix Boudreau
  • Collections, Amber Blaeser-Wardzala
  • Before I go, Norris Black

And an honorable mention to Darcie Little Badger, who wrote "The scientist's horror story", because I enjoyed her writing style here as much as I did when I read her book "Elatsoe".
