This book was written in a way that I did not enjoy. Did not care for the social media-aestetics. However, the book does highlight an important issue regarding how society and media deals with victims of rape and sexual assault.
I went into this book pretty blindly,
Having no idea what it was about, what genre it fell into.... nothing about the author, nothing about anything at all.
In 'Any Man' we follow the lives of victims of assault, all assaulted by the same woman: Maude
Maude is a serial rapist who seems to only prey on men... and boys??....when I say boys, I refer to one specific and underage boy in this book.
I have seen people say that the writing and style decisions of this book was not doing it for them, which I get....
But also i dont think i would have enjoyed reading this book as much as i had, if it werent written the way it was; the different narratives, paradoxes and writing styles all incorporated positively to the telling of the story, - it was poetic and raw, disturbingly mysoginiatic and sadistic while still compassionate
I don't know... this was a pretty twisted and exhilarating read, and on the topic of assualt and rape, in regards to this book... If im going to be honest, if i have to sit down and think of 'rape', the first thing that would come to mind is a male rapist and a female victim. Not the other way around.
Of course, i know females are capable of raping men, just as much as men are. but I guess i haven't really given it much thought until this book.
'Any man' was refreshing and chilling, how these men although having gone through something traumatic, they were still doubted, and when something this traumatic happens to you, - doubt is like a slap in the face.
Doubt because all the victims were men, and the question being:
How could a man let a lady do that to him?
That these things can't happen to men, that to some degree, it was the victims fault. Some even went to the extent of sympathizing with the rapist, glorifying her even.....
This book was definitely a wild ride
A twisted ride nonetheless
But a ride I enjoyed

Audiobook review- narration was perfect. Loved that part. Story itself didn’t work for me.
