I very much enjoyed the main character and the general story. I thought his discovery of compassion was interesting. But the writing was a little too stilted and flat. I guess I don't know what it feels like to be a teenage boy but I'd imagine it's more rich than this.

Alexie really should be required reading. And this one did not disappoint. Tragic but uplifting. Ugly and beautiful. The perfect book.

Really good book but why did it have to be Islamophobic? Literally no reason. Loses points for that. I also just have issues with Sherman Alexie and his treatment of women in general, especially given the news about him...

Sherman Alexi sure can write. This is the fourth book of his that I've read and, like the other three, it made me feel all the emotions. It's an easy read, but will stay with you long after you've finished. The only thing that prevents me from giving this book five stars is the amount of cop love.

I really don’t know what rating to give this. It was well written, but so dark and sad. It ended wonderfully, but it was such a brief moment of joy after reading some of the worst parts of humanity.

I like his stories, I like the idea of this book, but I cannot get past the passive aggressive bigotry. It's annoying. I cannot separate that from the author and now I'm not sure if I'm still a fan. I will assume that Alexie's autobiography was written after years of self-reflection because I love that book. There was a lot about this book that took me out of the story, I can't get behind it.
